Only Egyptian!!

You Don't Always Need a Transportation, If You are Egyptian, You are the Transportation

Only in Egypt!!

Do NOT Follow the White line, I Repeat, Do NOT Follow the White Line

keep it to yourself

Keep it to your self
Reading this title, I know what you are all thinking, keep what in?, well I would say that if you are living in Egypt , or let us say if you have been living in Egypt for quite enough time, then for sure you will know that it is keep your “opinion” to yourself. So being very honest about this , I am just not so sure if its only me who suffers from this , or is it that everyone is suffering the way I am , or if people have simply gotten used to it , but personally speaking , I am truly suffering from the fact that some Egyptians just can not keep it for themselves , so sometimes, I am driving , normally , and the all of sudden , someone whom I have never seen my entire life , comes and be like , you should do this or that , go right or go left, slow down , why are you driving like this , really dude? Why do you care , do you think that I would be having a car and wondering the streets if I do not already know how to drive the thing ? . However, you can actually hear a little bit more personal comments from people that you do not even know , like for example , if you are a girl and you are doing something a little different with your hair, you get out of the house , start walking down the street , and then, here it comes , “ what is wrong with your hair today”? , and then you go like , what is wrong with my hair, ohh wait a second , who are you ? how do you know me ? and more importantly, why on earth would you care??. However , there is another case , you know when you know someone a little but then they start thinking that they know you a lot , for example , the man working in the supermarket of your neighborhood, you like see him on a daily basis and so after some time , and only out of politeness , you start saying hi , how are things today, and then one day , he start thinking you guys are friends now , and it is then when the wired questions start , so , “where exactly is your building “?, “what floor?” , “ where were you the past few days”? , “ why are you late today?” , and it just gets so wired because you do know the guy, but you do not actually know him enough to answer these. So wrapping it all up , I would say that Egyptians’ kindness can actually be a double edged weapon , I can understand that it is  just out of kindness and feeling that we are together and united , but call me close minded, I do not really like being that close to the street .

Different wired names for the Egyptian pound
So, do you think that you know the one and only name for the Egyptian currency? ,, some people will read this and just say what is it that you are talking about and what kind of a question is that ? It is the one and only famous Egyptian pound. Well, am so sorry to tell you guys that you are wrong , it is not just the famous Egyptian pound , it has so many other names that you would only know if you are very familiar with the Egyptian streets with the different social classes along with different ages and different cultural backgrounds. So if you are one day wondering the streets in Egypt , buying something from the supermarket or taking a ride in a cap and then you hear someone saying it only costs you 15 “Bolbol” or if you asked the taxi driver “How much is the ride?” and he simply answered you saying, it is only 20 “Gondy” do not be surprised and do not you dare ask him what does this mean , because it just means that you owe him 20 regular Egyptian pounds. However, in places where people of lower social and educational classes along with people with a little bit different cultural basics can be found, you might actually hear much more weird names for the pound, so you could be passing by some young people and you accidently hear one of them saying I only have one “Lahlooh”, so again, do not freak out . it just means that he only has one pound.

Moreover, and if you are not extremely surprised by now , then a I can tell there is actually one more name for money that you could hear around Egypt which is “Cammant” and this is when you have to know that it is money that is being talked about. So wrapping the whole thing up , we can say that is always the un expected that you can find here in Egypt, you can never guess what wired names you will find for every single thing as every sector in the society literally have it’s own culture , habits . beliefs , perspectives and of course, language. However, no one can argue that we also have so much in common as Egyptians , despite all of our differences , we all know how to connect at the end of the day in ways that no other community can. So we are lucky , we are different, but we are the same .

10 things that are only said in Egypt !!

You're hands my seem the same, but you're fingers are the not the same , and in every country there is a "only happens here" situation. Since we are in Egypt we will be mentioning the "Only said in Egypt situations".

1-  Congratulations "كل سنة وانت طيب" :

You will always hear these words when there is no occasion at all, for example, someone opens the door for you or when a beggar passes by you just to give them money. sometimes you will also hear those words if you are at a gas station either fuel your car or washing it.

2- Come have some tea "تعشرب شاي" :

When you are at a local area or passing by a local cafe they would call you and you would definitely hear that sentence.

3- Hamada "حمادة":

You would always hear that word when a person wants to avoid embarrassment when they forget someone's name.

4- How did he die "هو مات ازاي" :

The First thing you would hear when someone dies, the last thing you would hear is their condolences!!!

5- Would you like to order something ? "تحب تعمل order" :

This is the most annoying sentence you would ever hear while calling to order food!!

6-  This is hamada and the upcoming is another hamada "الي فات كل حمادة و الي جي كل حمادة":

You would always hear that phrase when someone is telling something that happened to them that was weird, awkward or funny.

7- You don't have to pay for it  " خلي يا باشا":

You'll always hear that phrase you are buying something, the seller will always tell you that!! The second situation, when you ride a taxi and when you want to pay them at the end of the ride they will always tell you that phrase.

8- Doctor, Architect "يا بشمهندس , يا دكتور":

For God sake , There are so much more professions other that a doctor or an architect...

10- I just want to leave this country "نفسي اسيب البلد دي و اهج" :

It is a phrase you will always hear from any Egyptian, but alot of the Egyptians deep down never want to leave our country because no matter where they go or no matter how better other countries they still feel that Egypt is still the mother of all countries.

"Are they really the bravest?"

Are they really ,, " The bravest" ??

  • Alexandrian are the bravest, or, -Agdaa naas- , has always been a very widespread saying all over Egypt, wherever you are in Egypt and whenever you visit Alexandria or even if you are a native citizen in the city , you always hear this saying , Alexandrian are the bravest you could ever find, however, if you ask me, I think that absolutely no one in Egypt , Alexandrian or not , does know where did this saying come from and why on earth did it start . There are even a few old songs, maybe one or two, that have this saying among its lyric and so we can say that almost anything that has to do with the Alexandrian culture must include or mention this saying as a true fact . However, wondering and wondering what might be the original source of this saying or this assumption, asking both Alexandrian and non, reading about Alexandrian culture, research and research, nothing was found!! There is not even a fairy tales that mentions why on earth do people think that Alexandrian are the bravest and so , I think that we will have to settle with the assumption that this must be true, we can assume that something happened one day with a nonnative Alexandrian in that city and he must have found great bravery in its people and got a great help of them and so he came up with this saying that Alexandrian are the bravest he has ever seen. After wards, this must have been proven throughout history as every time someone needed an Alexandrian , he finds him there and so the saying was proven over and over again. However, as an Alexandrian , I do not really think it is actually that important to know where did it come from , is it? , I mean each and every Alexandrian is automatically born with such an endless pride and as he grows up ,extremely high expectations always accompany him , whenever you are in another city and anyone gets to know that you are an Alexandrian you will instantly here this “Agdaa naas” , so you do not actually have to do anything in order to have this reputation and you do not actually have to worry about where did it come from, was it an ancient saying that depended on one single situation, was it because Alexandrian always try to help strangers more than anyone else , was it just a rumor that was excellently spread , it does not really matter , all what really matters is that if you are an Alexandrian , you should always try to live up to the expectations , you always have to try to prove it right and not the other way around. As an Alexandrian you were born with a great legacy that you have not done any effort to earn it , however, you are asked to do all the effort it could take in order to keep that legacy and to make it last always and forever .
